This place is so called because of the presence in it of a pine (pinus pinea).  The current specimen had to replace the original centenary one due to the damage caused after the tropical hurricane Hortensia in 1984.

From this point, there is a panoramic view of the estuary of the river Ulla as it passes through Pontecesures, a small but economically thriving town thanks, in part, to the industrial activity developed by the condensed milk factory (Nestlé) and the lumber company (Finsa), on the other side of the river.
