The Church of San Lois was inaugurated as a parish church in 1893 after eighteen years of human and economic effort by the town's neighbourhood.

Neoclassical style, is situated on a high point accessed by a staircase that links the large atrium of the church with the square in front of it, the Plazuela.

Most of the religious and social events take place here, with the celebration of different pilgrimages and popular festivals, the most popular being the festival of San Lázaro and the festival of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of sailors.

Did you know that every year, on the Sunday before Palm Sunday, the San Lazaro pilgrimage is held here?

Its origin is due to the fact that Pontecesures, already in the 14th century, had a leper hospital, the Lazareto de San Lois, located a few metres from the Plazuela, where a chapel was built to venerate this saint.  Unfortunately, there are no remains of these buildings.
